Government to unveil 143 measures to ease traffic congestion in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo.- Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza announced that the Transportation Cabinet will soon unveil 143 new measures aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Santo Domingo. The strategies, developed over eight months with international input, are expected to bring significant changes to the city’s traffic system.
“These measures will be disruptive but necessary,” Paliza stated, emphasizing that the public will be informed before implementation begins.
Amid speculation of a citywide ban on left turns, the National Institute of Land Transit and Transportation (Intrant) denied such claims. Director Milton Morrison clarified that no general regulation currently prohibits left turns and urged the public to rely on official sources for accurate updates.
Nonetheless, targeted changes are in the works for key intersections. For instance, left turns will be eliminated at Winston Churchill and 27 de Febrero (eastbound), with drivers instead directed to make U-turns at Sarasota and Jiménez Moya. Similarly, left turns from John F. Kennedy Avenue onto Abraham Lincoln Avenue will no longer be allowed.
