COE reports five deaths and 25 traffic accidents during Easter Week holidays

The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported that there have been 25 traffic accidents and five deaths during Holy Thursday and Good Friday in the national territory.

In its report, the COE indicated that a total of 26 people were injured during these accidents, where 22 involved motorcycles, two light vehicles and a pickup truck. It also stated that 11 accidents occurred on highways and roads, while 14 others took place in urban areas.

COE also affirmed that two of the deaths occurred during the security operations. The other died of asphyxia due to immersion.

The entity said that 84 people have been treated for alcohol intoxications, while 13 have been treated for food poisoning.

As part of the Easter Week operation, “Conscience for Life 2025”, the agency stated that the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT) has carried out 163 inspection processes to standardized intersections and maintains monitoring of the entrances and exits of Greater Santo Domingo.

“126 routes, terminals or stops were visited, where visual vehicle technical inspections were carried out on 7,727 intercity public passenger transport units nationwide, in operations where the following were ordered to be replaced and/or repaired: 620 tires, 1,167 damaged or broken lights, 1,046 broken or missing windows and 160 missing mirrors, 176 missing window cleaners, 188 missing boomers, 146 wrong license plates, 106 vehicles in poor condition and other irregularities,” the entity reported.

For its part, the Directorate General of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (Digesett) has carried out a total of 6,237 inspections for various offenses under Law 63-17, including 2,039 motorcyclists for riding without a helmet; 856 for riding without a license or expired; 780 for riding without insurance or expired; 264 for violating the red light; 224 for not using a seat belt and 219 for using a cell phone while driving.
