Abinader reviews government actions to tackle illegal immigration

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader reviewed new government measures to combat illegal immigration and strengthen national sovereignty. These include a military reorganization with increased troops and expanded border wall construction, stricter immigration enforcement, and legal reforms to toughen penalties for migrant smuggling and human trafficking.
The reforms include updating Law 137-03, deploying more immigration agents, and creating specialized units and provincial offices. Hospitals will now require ID for care and mandate repatriation of undocumented patients after recovery.
To promote local employment, the government is developing pacts with construction and agriculture sectors, proposing wage increases, and expanding financial support programs. A RD$2.800 million Mechanization Fund has been created to modernize these sectors, with plans for further international funding.
