BiggerMIREX reaffirms Dominican sovereignty amid Haiti migration crisis
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic reaffirmed its sovereign right to enforce immigration laws in response to criticism from Haiti’s Presidential Transitional Council regarding the repatriation of undocumented Haitian migrants. Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX), the Dominican government stated that such measures are lawful and essential to safeguarding public order and national stability, especially given the growing risks posed by Haiti’s ongoing humanitarian and security crisis.
The Dominican authorities also highlighted their firm stance against migrant smuggling and human trafficking, emphasizing the damage these illegal networks cause to vulnerable populations. These criminal activities, according to the government, perpetuate cycles of violence and exploitation, necessitating robust and coordinated immigration enforcement.
Despite the diplomatic strain, the Dominican Republic expressed its openness to maintaining constructive dialogue with Haiti and international partners. However, it underscored that this willingness to engage in cooperation does not compromise its obligation to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
