Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez urges Russian intervention at UN over Haiti crisis
Santo Domingo.- During a two-and-a-half-hour meeting, Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez urged his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, to support more decisive action at the United Nations to address the ongoing political and humanitarian crisis in Haiti.
Álvarez requested that Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, help promote urgent and coordinated efforts through the multinational security support mission in Haiti.
In addition to discussing the Haiti situation, both ministers agreed to enhance cooperation in tourism, trade, and cultural exchange. They also emphasized that the opening of Russia’s first embassy in the Dominican Republic, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations, will further strengthen bilateral ties.
