PARLACEN Vice President urges global action on Haiti crisis
Santo Domingo.- Ramón Emilio Goris, Vice President of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN) and President of the Dominican Humanist Party (PHD), urged the international community to actively seek a lasting solution to Haiti’s deepening crisis, which he says is driving a surge of Haitian migration into the Dominican Republic.
Goris stressed the urgency of addressing Haiti’s institutional collapse and worsening poverty, warning that continued inaction could lead to even more serious consequences for the region. He called on member states of the Central American Integration System (SICA) to adopt a unified stance in defending human rights while respecting each nation’s sovereignty and immigration laws.
He also acknowledged the Dominican government’s ongoing efforts, under President Luis Abinader, to combat illegal migration.
Goris made these remarks during the PARLACEN Forum on Migration, which brought together political leaders and representatives from several countries. The event was inaugurated by PARLACEN President Carlos Hernández and featured high-profile participants including Dominican Senate President Ricardo de los Santos, Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies Dharuelly D’Aza, and Minister Andrés Bautista García. Officials from SICA, the International Organization for Migration, and other regional bodies also attended.
