Santo Domingo to host 2025 World Law Congress

Santo Domingo.- The World Jurist Association (WJA), in collaboration with Universidad del Caribe (UNICARIBE), will host the 29th World Law Congress in Santo Domingo on May 4–6, 2025. This global legal forum will gather over 300 experts from more than 70 countries to address contemporary legal challenges across 50+ panel discussions.

The opening ceremony on May 4 will feature notable figures such as WJA President Javier Cremades, Dominican Vice President Raquel Peña, Santo Domingo Mayor Carolina Mejía, former Colombian President Iván Duque, and King Felipe VI of Spain. Norma Piña, President of Mexico’s Supreme Court, will be awarded the WJA Medal of Honor for her contributions to justice.

On May 5, UNICARIBE will host 55 panels divided across ten key legal topics, including constitutional law, human rights, digital challenges, and environmental law. The event will emphasize youth participation, with over 600 Dominican students attending under the theme “New Generations & Rule of Law: Shaping the Future.”

The Congress will close on May 6 with the unveiling of the “Flame” peace monument along Santo Domingo’s Malecón and the presentation of the prestigious World Peace & Liberty Award to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. The ceremony will include addresses by global judicial leaders and the presence of Dominican President Luis Abinader and King Felipe VI.
