Warnings issued for severe flooding and overflowing rivers

Santo Domingo.- Meteorological analyst Jean Suriel has warned of an increase in severe flooding and river overflow over the past 24 to 48 hours, driven by the strengthening of a low-pressure system and highly humid winds. He shared audiovisuals from Gaspar Hernández in Espaillat province and Sabaneta de Yásica in Puerto Plata, showing the flooding caused by heavy rains.

Suriel emphasized that significant rainfall will persist throughout the afternoon, heightening the risk of flash flooding. The combination of a low-pressure trough and moisture-laden winds will continue to create unstable weather conditions across the country. The latest report from the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) predicts local showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds from the morning onward.
