COE issues red alert for heavy rains

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) has placed Santo Domingo, the National District, Monseñor Nouel, and San Cristóbal under red alert due to intense rainfall caused by a strengthening trough. The weather event has triggered widespread concern, prompting the agency to take immediate precautionary measures.

Nine other provinces remain under yellow alert, including Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, San José de Ocoa, Santiago, Montecristi, Valverde, and La Vega. Meanwhile, San Pedro de Macorís, El Seibo, Elías Piña, Peravia, Hato Mayor, La Romana, Samaná, and La Altagracia are under green alert.

The COE has urged parents to closely supervise minors and prevent them from swimming in rivers, streams, or other water bodies in affected areas. Drivers are also advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility on the roads. For emergencies or updates, citizens can contact the Civil Defense, Armed Forces, Red Cross, National Police, Fire Department, or the COE via 809-472-0909, 911, or *462. The public is encouraged to follow all safety instructions issued by civil protection authorities.
