Dominican government launches Meta RD 2036

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican government has launched Meta RD 2036, a long-term national development plan aimed at doubling the country’s GDP by 2036 through inclusive and sustainable economic growth. The initiative was formally introduced during the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic’s (AMCHAMDR) monthly luncheon, with key presentations by Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza and National Competitiveness Council (CNC) Director Peter Prazmowski.

Paliza emphasized that the plan prioritizes people over politics and aims for economic growth that benefits all sectors of society. He outlined ten priority goals for 2028 as a foundation for Meta RD 2036 and urged for continuity beyond electoral terms, stressing the need for broad national consensus.

Prazmowski highlighted the plan’s goal to raise per capita income from US$11,000 to over US$22,000 by 2036 through reforms in education, innovation, institutional development, and regional equity. He called for strong private-sector involvement to drive the country’s transformation.

AMCHAMDR President Francesca Rainieri affirmed the private sector’s commitment to the initiative, noting that AMCHAMDR companies contribute nearly 19% of national GDP and play a key role in its 12 working groups. The plan is governed by a multi-sectoral committee led by the Ministry of the Presidency, the Ministry of Economy, and the CNC.
