Dominican Migration Directorate defends human rights approach in deportation operations

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reaffirmed its commitment to human rights and due process in its ongoing efforts to curb illegal immigration in the Dominican Republic. In a public statement, the agency emphasized that all interdiction operations are conducted in accordance with Law 285-04 on Migration and its regulations, ensuring dignified treatment, safety, and hygiene for those involved.

The DGM highlighted its implementation of continuous improvement programs, regular performance evaluations, and a zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct. Over 100 employees have been dismissed or sanctioned this year for violations of internal rules, and new hires must now complete mandatory training on ethics and proper conduct.

So far in 2025, more than 145,000 undocumented foreigners, primarily Haitians, have been deported through operations based on intelligence-driven strategies. The DGM confirmed that it will continue these efforts while upholding justice, equity, and respect for human rights as fundamental principles.
