Government launches “Sovereignty 4.0” to curb Haitian radio interference
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (INDOTEL), in collaboration with the Ministries of Defense, Culture, and Education, launched the “Sovereignty 4.0” initiative to counter radio interference from Haitian stations in Dominican border provinces. The project aims to enhance local broadcasting capabilities, promote Dominican culture, and ensure access to national radio content in communities along the border.
INDOTEL Board President Guido Gómez Mazara emphasized that foreign interference threatens national identity and cited studies showing that 62% of residents in border areas lack access to Dominican radio. The plan focuses on strengthening the technical power and reach of stations in provinces like Montecristi, Dajabón, Elías Piña, and Pedernales, among others.
Under the slogan “Sonan-DO”, a special broadcast will combine Dominican music, news, and educational content on history, economy, and public policy. The Ministry of Culture will also support with traveling artistic events and workshops. Notable artists including Pochy Familia, Ramón Orlando, and Luis Segura are involved in promoting national culture through a mobile studio initiative.
INDOTEL has also approved and updated broadcasting frequencies for key stations in border regions to ensure broader and clearer access to Dominican radio.
