“Irregular” garbage service charges reported in Ciudad Juan Bosch
Juan Bosch City
Residents of Ciudad Juan Bosch have reported alleged irregular charges for garbage collection contracts, demanded by the local mini-mayor’s office on behalf of the Santo Domingo Este Mayor’s Office. According to reports, a payment of up to 4,000 pesos is being requested to open these contracts, without clear identification of the applicant or individualized official details.
One resident explained to the newspaper Hoy: “They sent us a letter saying we had to pay 4,000 pesos to open the garbage collection contract, without including our name or ID. But some neighbors were charged 250 or 1,000 pesos. It’s a case of beating and throwing stones, depending on how you talk. There’s no clear or uniform criteria.”
The situation, residents say, arose after the Ciudad Juan Bosch trust fund stopped covering solid waste collection payments starting in January 2024, prompting local authorities to attempt to bill condominium owners directly.

Those affected are demanding an official response from the mayor of Santo Domingo Este regarding the legality of the charges, as well as an equitable solution that does not penalize residents for disagreements between the mayor’s office, the residential management, and the trust.
