Abinader and Fernández to meet today to discuss Haitian crisis

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader is set to meet with former President Leonel Fernández this Thursday as part of an ongoing high-level dialogue aimed at addressing the Haitian crisis and its effects on the Dominican Republic. The meeting will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode), as previously announced by President Abinader during a press briefing at the National Palace.
Abinader emphasized that responding to the Haitian situation requires a unified, state-level approach rooted in consensus, experience, and respectful dialogue among the country’s major political leaders. This initiative builds on earlier efforts, including a meeting with former President Danilo Medina on June 26 and a previous gathering on May 14 with Medina, Fernández, and Hipólito Mejía at the Ministry of Defense.
The dialogue process has been reinforced through the Economic and Social Council’s (ESC) creation of six thematic roundtables covering migration, bilateral trade, border community development, national security, international relations, and labor issues. A public consultation on these topics is also underway until July 7, aiming to gather citizen input and strengthen national consensus.
Apparently getting the four together in one group didn’t work.
