Migration Policy Observatory finds low number of Haitian patients during hospital visits

Santo Domingo.- The Migration Policy Observatory (OPM) carried out an inspection on Wednesday at the Nuestra Señora de La Altagracia Maternity Hospital and the San Lorenzo de Los Mina Maternal and Child Hospital. The visit confirmed a “reduced” number of foreign patients and highlighted the good operational conditions of both facilities.
Medical authorities reaffirmed that healthcare services are provided equally to all patients, regardless of nationality, race, or religion, with an emphasis on protecting health and human life. The purpose of the visit was to ensure compliance with the government’s protocol for treating foreign patients, as part of the broader immigration policy. OPM Executive Committee President Miguel Franjul, who also directs the Listín Diario newspaper, led the delegation.
Before touring departments such as emergency, neonatal ICU, hospitalization, and outpatient services, the Observatory received a detailed briefing from Dr. Martín Ortiz, director of the Maternal and Child Services of the National Health Service (SNS). The OPM reviewed data related to birth rates among foreign mothers, legal status, the quality of care, and the presence of civil registry and immigration officials in hospitals.
