Metro suspends service at Villa Mella stations
Santo Domingo.- From Wednesday, July 16 to Sunday, July 20, service at five elevated stations of Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro—from Mamá Tingó to Hermanas Mirabal in Villa Mella—will be temporarily suspended. The Office for Transport Reorganization (OPRET) announced the closure is necessary to relocate and reconfigure railway signaling systems in preparation for the rollout of new six-car trains starting in early August.
To support affected commuters, the Metropolitan Bus Service Operator (OMSA) will provide free bus service along the suspended route in both directions during the five-day period.
Although train service will pause, the affected metro stations will remain open for card sales and recharges. OPRET encourages passengers to recharge in advance to avoid delays once operations resume. The agency assures the public that these temporary disruptions are part of long-term improvements aimed at expanding capacity, reducing wait times, and ensuring a more efficient transit experience.
