New York College Board educators dive into Dominican teacher training at ISFODOSU
Santo Domingo.- Twenty‑five College Board instructors from New York seized the opportunity this week to experience firsthand the Dominican approach to teacher preparation, touring the Salomé Ureña Higher Institute of Teacher Training (ISFODOSU) and its Félix Evaristo Mejía campus. Led by Dean Ana García Perez, the delegation explored cutting‑edge methods designed to shape classroom leaders both at home and abroad.
“We stand ready to share practices that uplift communities,” declared Dr. Carmen Gálvez, ISFODOSU’s academic vice‑rector, as she welcomed the visitors. Her counterpart, Dr. Glenny Bórquez, executive vice‑rector of the FEM campus, detailed ISFODOSU’s rigorous programs, showcasing how Dominican educators blend theory, cultural values and hands‑on training into a cohesive model.
Dean Pérez explained that many College Board teachers serve large Dominican student populations in New York City. “Our goal is to equip these educators with a deep understanding of Dominican upbringing and learning styles,” she said. “When students see their heritage reflected in lessons, their engagement and pride soars.”

Following classroom observations and interactive sessions, the group joined an energetic merengue performance led by FEM dance students, breaking down cultural barriers with music and movement. Later, they participated in a children’s literature workshop under Dr. Bilda Valentín, sampling strategies to enrich their own curricula back in the United States.
By the end of the visit, participants had not only gained fresh insights into Dominican pedagogy but also forged personal connections, planting the seeds for future exchanges that promise to transform classrooms from Santo Domingo to the Bronx.
