La Romana among world’s leading tourism destinations in child protection
Ana García-Sotoca
The La Romana Bayahibe Hotel Association (AHRB) and the La Romana Bayahibe Tourism Cluster (CTRB) have been recognized among the top 25 global members of 2025 by The Code, an international initiative focused on preventing the sexual exploitation of children in tourism.
According to Ana García-Sotoca, executive director of both institutions, the recognition highlights their strong commitment to responsible tourism, including the implementation of internal child protection policies, staff training, community engagement, and collaboration with NGOs and authorities. La Romana is the only destination in the Dominican Republic to receive this distinction, joining countries such as the U.S., Germany, Thailand, and Colombia.
As part of this honor, both organizations will share their best practices during international webinars in September 2025, in celebration of World Tourism Day.
