Deputy proposes regulated overnight parking in residential areas

Santo Domingo.- Deputy Juan José Rojas has submitted a draft resolution to the Chamber of Deputies urging the President to direct the National Institute of Land Transit and Transportation (INTRANT) to implement scheduled overnight parallel parking in residential neighborhoods, in coordination with local municipalities.

The proposal allows vehicles to park from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Saturday, and without restrictions on Sundays and holidays, as long as safety and traffic flow are not compromised. It also calls for a reassessment of streets with permanent parking bans and suggests involving neighborhood associations in shaping mobility policies.

Rojas explained that the initiative aims to address the worsening parking shortage in older residential areas, driven by the rising number of vehicles in the country. He emphasized that the measure is about more than convenience—it’s about improving safety, promoting harmony, and respecting community life. The resolution will be forwarded to the Executive Branch, INTRANT, the Dominican Municipal League, FEDOMU, and municipal governments for review and potential adoption.
