Government to use space outside Botanical Garden for República de Colombia Avenue expansion

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Public Works announced that the expansion of República de Colombia Avenue will include the use of space outside the perimeter fence of the Dr. Rafael M. Moscoso National Botanical Garden to build a new traffic lane.

The project, which handles more than 35,000 vehicles daily, aims to improve mobility by adding two additional lanes. One of these will run alongside the Botanical Garden without affecting the existing pedestrian walkway, according to engineer Juan José Núñez of the GSDRD Road Consortium, which is overseeing the work.

Núñez noted that sufficient space exists outside the garden’s fence for the new lane, while the opposite side of the avenue will also be expanded toward nearby properties. The initiative is part of the broader “Road and Environmental Solutions for Avenida República de Colombia and its Surrounding Area” project, developed by the Presidency in coordination with the Ministries of Environment and Public Works.
