Minor 3.1 earthquake reported near Puerto Plata

Santo Domingo.- A 3.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded early Monday in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 36 kilometers northeast of San Felipe de Puerto Plata and 21 kilometers north of the coast.

Some nearby residents felt light tremors, but no injuries or property damage have been reported.

The National Seismology Center classified the quake as low intensity and reassured the public that such events typically cause no significant harm.
