Tourism sector supports Abinader’s Waste Law Review
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s tourism and hotel sector associations have expressed strong support for President Luis Abinader’s openness to review the recently approved amendment to the General Law on Comprehensive Management and Co-processing of Solid Waste No. 225-20. They praised his willingness to engage in dialogue as a positive step toward responsible environmental management, sustainable tourism, and strengthening democratic institutions.
The associations believe that through a technical, participatory, and transparent process, legislation can be crafted to advance the country’s sustainability goals, enhance competitiveness, and promote fair and effective waste management aligned with international standards.
They reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with the government and all stakeholders to ensure the law balances economic growth, environmental protection, and community development.
President Abinader noted on La Semanal that he has not yet received the bill but intends to propose modifications before returning it to Congress.
