Public Ministry launches investigation into alleged media blackmail and defamation

Santo Domingo.- The Public Ministry has opened investigations into several journalists and content creators accused of misusing media platforms for blackmail, defamation, and undue pressure on individuals and institutions. Among those under scrutiny are Ángel Martínez, Claudia Pérez (“La Tora”), Luis Alfredo Cabrera (“Kapulet”), José Maracallo, and Fernando Peña.

Prosecutor Rosalba Ramos expressed concern over what she described as a growing trend of media-driven conflicts that undermine public trust and distort honest discourse. She warned of a rising “industry of discrediting,” where personal or political agendas replace truth and journalistic ethics.

Ramos stressed that the investigations aim to uphold legality and protect citizens’ rights—not to censor the press. She affirmed the Public Ministry’s commitment to enforcing laws that safeguard both freedom of expression and protection from harmful, manipulative media practices.
