Dominican and Mexican Foreign Ministers discuss Haiti
Mexico.- Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez met with his Mexican counterpart, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, to coordinate regional support for the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti. Both officials emphasized the need for joint action to restore stability in the country, including ongoing efforts such as the deployment of 150 officers to train the Haitian police.
The meeting also addressed preparations for the 10th Summit of the Americas, highlighting its importance in fostering high-level political dialogue and economic cooperation, including the business forum to be held during the summit.
Álvarez also held talks with Mexican Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard, focusing on boosting regional trade and increasing Mexican investment in the Dominican Republic. In a separate meeting with Mexico’s Environment Secretary Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, both nations proposed forming a bilateral forum to tackle the growing threat of sargassum in the Caribbean.
