Israeli Embassy in Santo Domingo denounces Hamas obstruction of humanitarian aid in Gaza

Santo Domingo.- The Israeli Embassy in Santo Domingo addressed concerns on Tuesday regarding misinformation surrounding the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. According to the embassy, the main challenge is not the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, but rather the distribution of this aid within the territory. The embassy stated that distribution efforts—mainly led by the United Nations—have been severely hindered by Hamas, which allegedly diverts aid for its own purposes and uses the crisis to further political goals.
Since the outbreak of the conflict, Israel claims to have maintained an open flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Over the past week alone, more than 1,200 trucks carrying around 23,000 tons of aid have entered the region. However, a large portion of this assistance remains undistributed due to what Israel describes as a breakdown in operations by responsible organizations. In response, Israel has implemented daily humanitarian pauses from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and supported airdrops to improve direct access to civilians, bypassing conventional delivery methods.
The embassy accused Hamas of actively blocking aid distribution, seizing supplies, reinforcing its military presence, and even attacking its own civilians to manipulate international perception. It also cited the case of Osama al-Rakab—a child featured prominently in critical narratives—as part of a misinformation campaign. According to Israeli officials, Osama’s health condition stems from a genetic illness, and he is currently receiving treatment in Italy after being evacuated with Israeli support on June 12, 2025.
The embassy concluded by reaffirming Israel’s commitment to ensuring aid reaches Gaza and reiterated its position that Hamas, not Israel, is responsible for creating conditions of hunger and suffering within the territory.
