Top legal advisor says no imminent government changes

Santo Domingo.- Amid speculation of a potential cabinet reshuffle, the Dominican Republic’s top legal advisor, Antoliano Peralta Romero, has affirmed that no government changes are imminent. Peralta stated that as of this morning, he had not received any instructions to draft decrees for such modifications.

Speaking to reporters, the Executive Legal Advisor to President Luis Abinader directly addressed the persistent rumors. “I have not received any request from the president for decrees for changes in the cabinet, at any level,” Peralta said, specifying that his statement was current as of 11:00 a.m. on August 8.

The statement comes just days before August 16, a date traditionally associated with major government appointments and changes in the Dominican Republic. However, Peralta noted that President Abinader has previously stated that while changes are not mandatory on these dates, they are also not ruled out.

According to Peralta, no official instructions or documentation related to a cabinet shake-up have been submitted to his office. The political environment remains tense, with leaders from allied parties and officials within the ruling PRM party reportedly anxious for opportunities to secure positions within the administration.
