4.8-magnitude earthquake shakes Eastern Dominican Republic

A 4.8-magnitude earthquake was recorded this Monday morning between La Romana province and Catalina Island, according to the National Seismology Center of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (CNS). The tremor occurred at 7:40 a.m. at a depth of 87.3 kilometers, with its epicenter located 14.8 kilometers west of Catalina Island in the Caribbean Sea.
Meteorological analyst Jean Suriel reported that the quake was felt across much of the country, particularly in San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana.
Authorities have confirmed that no injuries or material damages have been reported so far. Monitoring of the area will continue as a precautionary measure.
