Olivares: construction and agriculture sectors affected by foreign labor shortage
Santo Domingo.- Labor Minister Eddie Olivares acknowledged that the reduction of foreign workers, particularly Haitians, due to immigration policies promoted by President Luis Abinader, is affecting critical sectors such as construction and agriculture, especially the sugar industry.
He explained that the issue was addressed at the Economic and Social Council summit, attended by President Abinader and former presidents Leonel Fernández, Danilo Medina, and Hipólito Mejía. Decisions were made, and it is now up to the current and former leaders to announce the proposals to the nation.
Olivares emphasized that discussions were conducted in a spirit of national consensus, focusing on the country’s interests without partisan conflicts, ensuring that the needs of the affected sectors were given priority.

Lots of videos online of Dominican youth dancing denbow like primitive species and pot belly beer drinking young men by the river at 10am in thr morning listening to bachata….maybe they need better pay and benefits to participatein thr construction workforce????
Use some of the multitudes of unemployed CITIZENS and there are a ton of them. The excuse that we need foreign underpaid/underqualified illegal aliens to support the workforce just does not hold water.
This situation underlines the reality that government has to implement a program to allow foreigners to do the tasks legally the locals are unwilling to do. Without such a program or similar, the stage will not change, the economy will slump.
