Paliza highlights Japan collaboration to strengthen infrastructure in Dominican Republic
Tokyo, Japan.- Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza emphasized the importance of the Dominican Republic’s cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to enhance infrastructure security and reduce vulnerability to natural disasters. He noted Japan’s expertise in emergency planning, seismic-resistant building codes, and disaster management as a model for the country.
Paliza explained that JICA is currently assisting the National Office for Seismic Assessment and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie) with Dominican seismic codes. He requested an extension of this cooperation to include crisis management protocols, emergency communication systems, and oversight of both public and private infrastructure.
Highlighting the urgency, Paliza stressed the need for preparedness in case of a major earthquake, noting that Japan’s experience in earthquake-prone regions can significantly strengthen the Dominican Republic’s disaster prevention and response strategies.
