Extreme heat alert! These are the hardest hit areas in the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Meteorological Institute (Indomet) issued a heat alert this Saturday due to the high temperatures affecting various regions of the country, accompanied by high levels of humidity that intensify the thermal sensation (Heat Index).

According to the official afternoon report, extremely high temperatures were recorded in several locations, with heat indexes far exceeding actual readings.

Report highlights:

Bayaguana: 35.5 °C temperature, 74% relative humidity, heat index of 58 °C

Sabana de la Mar : 32.5 °C, 71% humidity, heat index of 49 °C

Santo Domingo East: 32.3°C average, 67.5% humidity, heat index of 41°C

Puerto Plata and Santiago : 34.0 °C, 63% humidity, heat index of 42 °C

Punta Cana : 33.0 °C, 60% humidity, heat index of 40 °C

Montecristi: 34.4 °C, 59% humidity, heat index of 45 °C

 

Indomet recommends that the population avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, stay hydrated, and take special precautions for children, older adults, and individuals with preexisting health conditions.
