Dominican Republic welcomes first Amazon Prime Air flight

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic welcomed the first Amazon Prime Air flight to Las Américas International Airport (AILA) this Wednesday, marking a major milestone for trade and logistics in the country. The aircraft was received at the cargo terminal by Customs Director Eduardo “Yayo” Sanz Lovatón, along with representatives from the airport, business, and logistics sectors.
Amazon announced plans to establish a regional distribution center for Latin America in the Dominican Republic, strengthening the country’s role as a key air cargo hub in the Caribbean. President Luis Abinader highlighted that Amazon Air will operate seven weekly flights with a total capacity of 770 metric tons, consolidating the nation’s position as a regional logistics leader. He emphasized Amazon’s global leadership in e-commerce, with operations in more than 20 countries and accounting for 40% of U.S. online sales, underlining the strategic importance of the initiative.
