INDOTEL to invest over US$900,000 in National Alert System equipment

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL) signed an agreement with the National Emergency and Security System 9-1-1 to invest over US$900,000 in technological equipment for the implementation of the National Alert System. The system will enable rapid, geolocated, and mass emergency notifications to the population.

The agreement, formalized by INDOTEL President Guido Gómez Mazara and 9-1-1 Executive Director Colonel Randolfo Rijo Gómez, covers the purchase, installation, and operation of the equipment. The National Alert System will use Cell Broadcast technology, allowing authorities to send real-time alerts about weather events, health emergencies, security threats, and other risks without network congestion.

The US$929,256.59 investment, approved by INDOTEL’s board, marks a major step in strengthening national security infrastructure. Following the signing, the next phase includes equipment installation and technical testing for nationwide deployment, reflecting the government’s commitment to leveraging technology to safeguard lives and property.
