Book sellers celebrate progress in reading habits
Santo Domingo — With just one day to go until the 27th Santo Domingo International Book Fair concludes, bookstore owners and publishing representatives are praising the week’s attendance and celebrating what they consider a step forward in the public’s interest in making reading a habit.
The Reading Walk Pavilion, where participating bookstores are concentrated, was one of the busiest at the event, with a constant flow of people.
Whole families, students, and visitors of all ages browsed the stands, finding a different offering at each one: children’s books, teen romance novels, self-improvement books, and even titles in history and philosophy.
Among the most sought-after titles in the various bookstores, the young adult novel “The King’s Perfume” stood out from the crowd, having sold out in almost all participating bookstores yesterday morning.
For their part, although self-help books have seen a drop in demand compared to young adult books during this year’s fair, some titles such as “Rich Dad, Poor Dad,” “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari,” and “Atomic Habits” remain in fashion and are still in demand by readers interested in nurturing their behavior.
Overall, bookstore owners were satisfied with the sales generated, despite the interruption during the first two days due to rain. They also expressed relief that the new generation was interested in reading.
