Maimón – Dominican Republic.- The Dominican Mining Corporation (Cormidom) reported Tuesday afternoon that 80 people are trapped following a collapse at the Cerro de Maimón mine, which the company operates in Monseñor Nouel province.
As of 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, no injuries had been reported. Operational teams are working to stabilize and monitor the area to ensure the safe rescue of those trapped.
“The immediate priority of Cormidom’s teams has been to verify the health of the workers. We have established communication with the group and confirmed that everyone is in perfect health and safe,” the company said in a statement.
Specialized technical and rescue teams are focusing their efforts on stabilizing the affected area to enable the 80 isolated workers to return home safely.
“Cormidom is working closely with the relevant authorities and rigorously following all established protocols for this type of situation within the mining operation,” the statement added.
The company also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining “constant and transparent communication,” providing updates as the situation develops.

It seems the miners are all safe for now, just a matter of finding a safe route to depart the mine.
