Electrical failure and reported explosion force suspension of Santo Domingo Metro
Santo Domingo.- An electrical failure on Monday night forced the suspension of the Santo Domingo Metro after an explosion was reported at the Gregorio Gilbert station in Villa Mella, Santo Domingo Norte. According to the Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (OPRET), the incident occurred around 7:25 p.m. between the Mamá Tingó and Peña Gómez stations, interrupting the power supply along that section of Line 1.
Initially, only the affected stretch was shut down, but authorities later closed all Metro stations as a precaution following the reported explosion. Emergency response units from the 911 National System and the Santo Domingo North Fire Department promptly evacuated passengers and secured the area.
