Agriculture begins table grape harvest in San Juan

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Agriculture and local grape producers have kicked off the national grape harvest, reporting yields of around 4,000 boxes per hectare—double the international average. The government-supported initiative, which began in Montecristi, has expanded to Pedro Corto in San Juan and is now identifying new growing areas across the southern region and other parts of the country.

Agriculture Minister Limber Cruz noted that the high quality of Dominican grapes has attracted companies from France, Spain, Italy, and other nations seeking to produce wines, ciders, and other grape-based raw materials in the country. The San Juan project currently covers about 18 hectares planted with Timpson and Sweet Celebration seedless varieties, destined for local markets and export.

Producer Alberto Ramírez said they are already supplying natio

nal supermarkets and several U.S. cities.
