Two technical failures disrupt Santo Domingo Metro service

Santo Domingo.- The Santo Domingo Metro reported two technical failures on Wednesday that caused partial service interruptions on Lines 1 and 2. The first incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. at the María Montez station on Line 2, forcing a suspension of operations for more than two hours. OPRET later confirmed that service was restored at 9:37 a.m., explaining that the issue was caused by a malfunction in the track switch that affected train arrivals and departures at that station.

A second disruption took place shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Line 1, affecting the Mamá Tingó–Hermanas Mirabal section in Villa Mella. Service was halted for over an hour and resumed at 7:20 p.m., although OPRET did not specify the cause of this failure. Despite delays and crowding across the system, authorities stressed that neither event posed any danger to passengers.

OPRET director Jhael Isa Tavárez announced that the agency will introduce a preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance plan to reduce future failures, coordinated with the construction of Line 2C. He clarified that the morning breakdown was not electrical but originated from a loose connection caused by nearby construction vibrations at María Montez.
