US Embassy announces Green Fest at Botanical Garden
Santo Domingo.- The US Embassy through its Green Team and the Environment Ministry’s support will host its traditional "Green Fest" at the National Botanical Garden to mark International Earth Day, starting 10am Sunday.
According to recent studies Dominican Republic is considered the world’s eighth most vulnerable country to the effects of climate change due to natural disasters, beach erosion as well as the threat to coral reefs.
The Green FEst aims to raise awareness for the entire family on the importance of preserving the environment and of taking actions that reduce human impact on the planet.
In its fifth year Green Fest will bring together more than 70 exhibitors to show showcase their green initiatives to protect the environment, under the theme "It’s our time to lead."
Several storage facilities will be installed at the Botanical Garden to collect plastics, cardboard and paper.
“The festival will feature live music by rockers Miguel Angel Soul and DJ Poteleche, an organics market, healthy food choices, crafts made from recyclable materials, an activities area for youngsters, talks about recycling and environmentally friendly practices workshops for the entire family.
The event will also be attended by US ambassador James W. Brewster, who’ll award the winners of the social networks contest "From our community for the planet."
