Santo Domingo.- Visa Inc., a global leader in digital payments, announced the appointment of Gustavo Turquía as the new General Manager for Visa in the Dominican Republic. In this role, Turquía will lead Visa’s strategy to consolidate its presence in the country’s digital payment ecosystem through innovative digital payment solutions, ensuring alignment with Visa’s regional priorities.
“We are pleased to announce that Gustavo Turquía will lead the teams responsible for deepening our partnerships with financial institutions, acquirers, merchants, fintechs, and other key stakeholders in the Dominican Republic, strengthening our brand’s reputation within the ecosystem and ensuring alignment with regional priorities,” said Jorge Lemus, Senior Vice President, General Manager of Visa for the Caribbean and Central America.
“We are confident that under Gustavo’s leadership, we will continue to support our clients and partners in the Dominican Republic to drive digital payment adoption and financial inclusion, enabling our communities to thrive as we expand access to the benefits of digital payments among consumers, merchants, businesses, and governments,” the new General Manager said.
Turquía joined Visa in 2018 as an account executive in Brazil. Most recently, as Head of Commercial Sales for Visa Brazil, he played a significant role in growing the country’s digital and acceptance infrastructure by working with global merchants. He also developed a holistic approach, partnering with clients in a bold manner by combining comprehensive solutions, ranging from issuance, acceptance, commercial and money movement solutions, to value-added services, into a single agreement.
“In a dynamic market with substantial international investment like the Dominican Republic, it is critical to continue developing opportunities to expand the digital payments infrastructure while bringing innovative solutions that contribute to the growth of large, small, and micro businesses in the country, which we know form the economic heart of the Dominican Republic,” said Gustavo Turquía, General Manager of Visa in the Dominican Republic.
“For Visa, it is a priority to continue driving the adoption of digital payments, contributing to the progress and prosperity of the financial, commercial, and business sectors in the country. Digital payments provide multiple benefits by generating greater efficiencies, transparency, and security in payments and offering citizens a wide range of convenient payment options. I am very pleased to lead Visa’s efforts to accelerate the transformation underway in the country and take the Dominican Republic to the next level in digital payment innovation,” he pointed out.
Turquía holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from FECAP in São Paulo, an MBA from Fundação Dom Cabral, and completed an executive leadership business program at the London Business School.
Turquía will relocate to Santo Domingo from São Paulo, Brazil, and join Visa’s leadership team for the Caribbean and Central America, replacing Sofía Antor, who managed Visa’s operations in the Dominican Republic for over five years and has relocated to Visa’s regional office in Florida to fulfill her new role as Leader of Cross-Border Business, Visa Latin America and the Caribbean.
