Luis Moreno wins 2024-2025 LIDOM Rookie of the Year

Santo Domingo.- Luis Moreno, pitcher for the Estrellas Orientales, has been named Rookie of the Year for the 2024-2025 Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) championship, dedicated to the memory of Don José León Asensio. LIDOM announced the accolade in a press release on Monday.

Moreno earned 268 points under LIDOM’s weighted evaluation system, appearing on 62 of 69 ballots, with 47 first-place votes, nine second-place votes, and six third-place votes. The 26-year-old right-hander, affiliated with the New York Mets, played in 11 games (10 as a starter) and recorded a 2-2 record. Over 39 1/3 innings, he allowed 23 hits, 13 runs (eight earned), achieving a 1.83 ERA, 37 strikeouts, 15 walks, and a 0.97 WHIP.

Girardi Diaz, catcher for the Cibao Giants, finished second with 144 points, followed by Euribiel Ángeles of the Estrellas in third with 99 points. Ángel Ortiz of the Tigres del Licey secured fourth place with 59 points.

LIDOM’s 69-member jury, comprising journalists, team representatives, and international chroniclers, selected the winners. Moreno will receive an award and a cash prize for his distinction. The league is set to announce the Executive of the Year award next.
