Santo Domingo.- Junior Caminero’s dramatic ninth-inning solo home run sealed a 6-5 victory for the Leones del Escogido over the Tigres del Licey, clinching the 2024-2025 LIDOM championship. Caminero’s 454-foot blast off Jairo Asencio, with an exit velocity of 114.2 mph, marked his second homer of the night and secured the Leones’ 17th league title. Earlier, he had launched a 442-foot shot, showcasing his offensive dominance.
The Leones initially took a lead in the fourth inning with contributions from Socrates Brito, Caminero, and Jean Segura. However, the Tigres responded in the fifth with a four-run rally, overtaking the visitors. Caminero and Segura struck back in the sixth, narrowing the gap, while Yamaico Navarro’s RBI double tied the game. In the seventh, Harold Ramírez’s single for the Tigres evened the score at 5-5, but Caminero’s ninth-inning homer ultimately restored the Leones’ advantage.
Caminero’s stellar performance included a 4-for-5 night with a home run, two doubles, three runs scored, and a walk. Segura also shone, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs. For the Tigres, Emilio Bonifacio and Ramírez delivered notable contributions. Silvino Bracho (2-0) earned the win, retiring three batters in the eighth, while Rafael Montero (3) secured the save despite a challenging ninth inning. Asencio (0-1) took the loss for the Tigres.
