Despegar highlights the great boom of the Dominican Republic as a destination for Mexicans
Despegar, the leading travel technology company in Latin America, highlights a growing interest of its Mexican users in destinations in the Caribbean, mainly the Dominican Republic.
The phenomenon can be attributed to the unique combination of cultural attractions, dreamy beaches, and unique experiences that the DR offers.
Thus, Despegar has identified three destinations that became a trend among travelers: Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, and Puerto Plata. Each has a wealth of activities and accommodation options for all visitors.
“During 2024, we observed a significant growth in searches for the Dominican Republic, highlighting an outstanding increase towards Santo Domingo, compared to the previous year. This performance motivates us to continue investing in the tourism industry through a diversified offer, technological innovation and a customer-centric approach,” said Santiago Elijovich, country manager of Despegar in Mexico.
Meanwhile, Carolina Pérez, director of the Office for the Promotion of the Dominican Republic in Mexico, indicated that “the Dominican Republic captivates with its combination of paradisiacal landscapes, rich culture and exceptional hospitality. Its authentic offerings, from pristine beaches to unique gastronomy and traditions, have sparked growing interest among Mexican travelers. This increase is driven by new flight frequencies, reaffirming our commitment to connecting more visitors with meaningful and enriching experiences.”
The platform highlights that Punta Cana, known for its stunning beaches and wide range of activities, is ideal for relaxation and entertainment.
On the other hand, Santo Domingo, the country’s capital, is a must-see destination for lovers of culture and history. The Colonial Zone, which has been declared a World Heritage Site, allows you to discover architectural treasures such as the Primate Cathedral of America and the Alcázar de Colón.
Finally, Puerto Plata offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural legacy. Outstanding activities include the cable car to Isabel de Torres Peak and the Damajagua Falls.
The beaches of Sosua, Cabarete, and Punta Rucia are perfect for relaxing or water sports.
