2024: a record-breaking year for Dominican tourism
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic experienced a record-breaking year in 2024, welcoming 11,192,042 visitors, including 8,535,742 tourists arriving by air and 2,656,305 cruise passengers. This milestone was announced by Tourism Minister David Collado during his monthly press conference, where he highlighted the sector’s robust growth.
Air arrivals grew by 32% compared to 2019, 19% compared to 2022, and 6% compared to 2023. Cruise passenger numbers also surged, marking a 141% increase from 2019, 103% from 2022, and 18% from 2023. The United States contributed the largest share of tourists (46%), followed by Canada (19%), Colombia (5%), Argentina (4%), and Puerto Rico (3%). Punta Cana Airport received the majority of arrivals (59%), followed by Las Américas (24%), Cibao (11%), and La Romana (1%).
Minister Collado emphasized that these results affirm the Dominican Republic’s status as a global tourism leader. He expressed confidence in continued growth, predicting the sector will surpass its own records in the coming year.
