Tourism launches “Ritmo de la Costa” project to boost cultural tourism

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Tourism will launch its new cultural tourism initiative, “Ritmo de la Costa,” on Saturday, July 26. Running through November 29, the project will bring a series of monthly cultural and artistic events to five provinces: Santo Domingo, La Romana, Samaná, San Cristóbal, and María Trinidad Sánchez.

Designed to boost local tourism, the initiative will celebrate the Dominican Republic’s rich cultural heritage—particularly merengue, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Events will be held on the last Saturday of each month and aim to revitalize public spaces while promoting community engagement and social cohesion.

The kickoff event will take place on the Santo Domingo Este boardwalk and will feature live performances by top orchestras. Future events include stops at the Caleta boardwalk in La Romana in August and the newly opened Samaná boardwalk in September. “Ritmo de la Costa” seeks to offer both locals and visitors immersive cultural experiences that highlight Dominican music, identity, and tourism potential.

They should’ve included Puerto Plata in the itinerary.
