Summer 2025 travel trends show Mexican tourists maintaining strong interest in domestic destinations while increasingly opting for personalized international experiences. According to data from RateHawk, top international choices include the Dominican Republic, the U.S., Italy, Spain, France, Colombia, the UK, Japan, Greece, and Canada.
Expanded air connectivity is fueling this trend. Aeroméxico’s new routes to Punta Cana, Philadelphia, Cali, and Cartagena align closely with the most booked destinations. Cartagena, for instance, has seen a 25% rise in bookings and a doubling of stays from February to May 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
Japan is also emerging as a top long-haul destination, welcoming over 100,000 Mexican visitors in 2024, thanks to the return of direct flights to Tokyo. Meanwhile, popular domestic cities like Cancún, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico City, Playa del Carmen, and Mazatlán remain strong tourism hubs due to well-established offerings and expanded routes from carriers like Volaris and Viva.
