Tourism Minister confirms La Caleta Underwater Park reopening in 30 days
La Caleta, Boca Chica.- Tourism Minister David Collado visited the ongoing reconstruction of La Caleta Underwater Park, announcing that the project is over 90% complete and will be inaugurated in 30 days. Collado, accompanied by architects, engineers, sculptors, and officials from MITUR, highlighted the park’s significance as the country’s most visited underwater attraction.
The historic project spans 119,925 square meters and features a 2.74-kilometer promenade celebrating the countries of the Americas and the Caribbean, the renovation of 45 monoliths near Las Américas International Airport, and around 20,000 square meters of plazas and trails. Additional improvements include landscaping that preserves existing species, new pedestrian paths, parking lots, recreational areas, viewpoints, children’s play areas, and a pergola module for vendors. A service module will also provide offices and facilities for Politur.
The project, managed by the Central Tourism Board (Ceiztur) with a total investment of RD$395,404,271, aims to restore a park that had been abandoned for over 50 years. La Caleta Underwater National Park, established in 1986, protects important cultural and biological heritage, including the Taíno Ethnological and Archaeological Museum and the wreck of the frigate Nuestra Señora de Begoña.
