U.S. Consul General highlights tourism growth in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- U.S. Consul General William Swaney highlighted the importance of tourism and gastronomy for the Dominican Republic and bilateral relations. He praised the growth of destinations like Punta Cana and Puerto Plata and noted that cuisine is becoming a cultural bridge between the two countries.

Swaney spoke at an event organized by the Sabores Dominicanos Foundation, which presented the RD25-30 Gastronomy Plan. The initiative aims to establish schools to train middle management in gastronomy, addressing the shortage of qualified personnel and enhancing the sector’s competitiveness over the next five years.

Event coordinators Bolívar Troncoso, Luis Marino López, and Juan Febles emphasized that public-private collaboration and specialized training are crucial to creating a sustainable gastronomy sector that generates jobs and strengthens the Dominican Republic’s international culinary reputation.
