Arajet launches direct flights between Punta Cana and Chicago O’Hare

Punta Cana.- Arajet inaugurated a new direct route between Punta Cana International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport, marking its fifth destination in the United States and reinforcing the Dominican Republic’s position as a major air hub in the Caribbean. The service will operate three times a week—on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays—offering more than 2,200 seats weekly for travelers moving between both cities for tourism or business.

The airline expects the route not only to boost passenger flow between Punta Cana and Chicago but also to function as a gateway for connections to other destinations in its network, including Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mexico City, Cancún, Kingston, and Lima. Arajet’s Head of Communications and Public Affairs, Manuel Luna, highlighted that operating at Chicago O’Hare—one of the world’s busiest airports—represents a significant milestone in Arajet’s U.S. expansion and provides a direct, affordable option for the Dominican community in Illinois.

Chicago’s addition to the Arajet network aligns with the Ministry of Tourism’s identification of the city as a strategic market. In 2024, more than 138,000 travelers from Chicago visited the Dominican Republic, demonstrating strong demand from both Dominican residents in the Midwest and American tourists seeking Caribbean destinations.

Great! However, flights to/from St Louis, MO. may have been a better choice. Its central location would capture more passenger demand without them have to fly first to Chicago to board an Arajet flight and then do reverse on return.

How about more US flights into POP. Significant development in the north which is great but tourists won’t come if no flights or too expensive.
