Amber Cove marks 10 years as a driver of growth in Puerto Plata

Puerto Plata.- The executive director of the Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM), Jean Luis Rodríguez, highlighted the economic and social impact of the Amber Cove cruise terminal during its tenth anniversary celebration. He emphasized that what began as an ambitious project a decade ago has become a symbol of growth for Puerto Plata and the Dominican port industry, fulfilling—and surpassing—its original development goals.

Rodríguez noted that Amber Cove has generated a wide network of opportunities, benefiting employees, artisans, tour operators, transporters, and small businesses across the northern region. The terminal has created significant direct and indirect jobs, strengthening the local economy through increased commercial activity in shops, restaurants, and tourism services. The anniversary event was attended by representatives from Carnival Corporation, APORDOM, local authorities, and industry leaders.

Located in Maimón Bay, Amber Cove is one of the largest cruise investments in the country and Carnival Cruise Line’s exclusive port in the Dominican Republic. With capacity for up to 8,000 passengers and 2,000 crew members per day, the terminal offers access to local attractions and amenities, including beaches, dolphin encounters, and a resort-style pool area. After ten years of operation, it remains a key gateway to the north coast and an essential stop for cruise visitors.
