Dominican consul invites diaspora to celebrate Our Lady of Altagracia in New York
New York.- Jesús Vásquez Martínez, the Dominican consul in New York, encouraged the Dominican diaspora to attend a mass honoring Our Lady of Altagracia at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The event, organized by the Archdiocesan Committee of Altagracia, marks the 53rd annual Marian mass in Spanish and serves as the opening of Dominican Heritage Month.
Daisy Cruz, general coordinator of the committee, highlighted the participation of over 52 parishes in promoting devotion to Christ and Our Lady of Altagracia, the protector of Dominicans. Vásquez Martínez emphasized the mass as a celebration of faith and Dominican values, calling it a symbol of unity and hope for the diaspora.
This annual tradition begins on January 21, coinciding with the feast day of Our Lady of Altagracia, and concludes on February 27, Dominican Independence Day. The event strengthens the spirituality and cultural identity of Dominicans living abroad while honoring their homeland’s heritage.
